Welcome to EPGeriatricsSociety.org
The Eastern Pennsylvania Geriatrics Society (EPGS)
Geriatrics is one of those words that means different things to different people. Recently, I asked several people what they thought the term meant. A tall, well-groomed university student said geriatrics is..."The study of old people". more»
Due to unpredictable weather-related challenges in the forecast and the Eastern Pennsylvania Geriatrics Society's desire to provide the best education opportunity possible, the decision has been made to reschedule our March 20, 2018 program, "Challenges in Developing New Medications for Alzheimer's Disease."
The new date for this program will be Wednesday, April 4, 2018, 6:30pm at the same venue. Please contact Nancy Carpey with any questions.
Challenges in Developing New Medications for Alzheimer's Disease
The past decade has seen repeated failures in efforts to develop new medicines for Alzheimer's disease. Likely reasons for these failures will be presented and point to new approaches that will improve future chances of success. In particular, the development of new PET imaging biomarkers for amyloid and tau pathology will enable trials targeting subjects much earlier in the disease process who are likely to progress to dementia.
Why have we seen so many promising treatments for Alzheimer's disease in recent years fail to demonstrate efficacy? The most likely explanations for the inability to demonstrate the effectiveness of pharmaceuticals will be presented in this program, which will also discuss some promising new approaches.
